OK, it's my birthday. Yup, I'm old (er). Or just plain old, if you ask my daughter. :) I haven't quite embraced saying the word 'forty-two' yet though. It might take a few months.
There's lots to report here.
The garden is still going strong. I've got cherry tomatoes like crazy - I bet we have picked over 100 so far. I love eating them right off the plant, still warm from the sun.
Farmer's Market has been really fun this summer. I think the peak was in early August though, as this past weekend had fewer customers. Even with fewer customers, I did amazingly well (best weekend for gross sales). Overall, I have about $60+ at home in ingredients and products (focaccia bread and granola), plus I have covered all of my costs for the ingredients over the summer. I didn't make tons of money, but I did have fun. My peach tarts were becoming world famous, at least in Germantown. People actually came to ask if I had some for that week. And my focaccia bread was wonderful savory addition to the market - lots of sweet baked goods available, not very many savory things.
I especially liked talking with the other vendors, during the quiet parts of the day over the summer. The Amish lady who sells flowers - hardworking and beautiful flower arrangements. The old man who sells veggies - he and his wife are very nice, good tomatoes too (used them in my salsa). Ryan, the 12-year-old Future Farmer of America - makes his own pesto and zucchini bread, plus grows his own garden. He knows more about gardening than I do. The other Amish lady who does baking - very nice, she has 3 ovens - wow!
And we bought a 21 pound watermelon from Stubbs Family Farm for $6 - WOW, it is so sweet and yummy.
I feel like I need to begin shifting back to family though, preparing some good dinners, crock pot meals, freezer meals, etc, now that we are in school mode. Swim team is going to start back up soon for Jordan, so she'll need a little more than chips or cereal for dinners. Summer tends to be pretty lax for dinners for us sometimes, just snacking.
I found a great meal planning guide from a new blog I've started reading - The Morris Tribe. And they are in Ohio too, which is awesome - we could be neighbors. :) I don't think so, but I do think they are in the greater Dayton area somewhere, so close enough. Anyways, this meal planning guide had lots of great information and good ideas and recipes. I can't wait to try the crock pot lasagna - very comforting to come home from work and know that dinner is almost ready (and smell it throughout the house).
I just participated in a project management class all day at work yesterday, which was very interesting and has me thinking of my next project - making this blog better, more posts (because I actually have something to share, not just fluff), and more networking and connecting with other like-minded bloggers out there.
It's exciting and I can't wait to write more!
Peace.
