I started a new puzzle. I know, I'm a nerd. I like puzzles. This one is of a garden with 6 or 7 birdhouses - very pretty with lots of colors.
I started thinking about God and creation while I was working on the puzzle. I certainly can't open the box and dump all the pieces out, expecting them to land magically interlocked into place in exactly the way the front of the box looks. I pictured the same thing with God. He probably opened the box called Earth and saw a gazillion pieces and thought 'Oh, boy, this is going to be a hard puzzle.'
The way I put a puzzle together is to start with the outline, so I look for all the pieces that have a straight edge and compare them with the picture on the front, looking for colors, lines, or textures that go together.
I think God did the same thing - he separated light from dark and called it good.
Once I have the edge pieces all done and the outline is complete, I start looking through the box for similar colors. Yellows - yup, they go over here in the top left area. Greens - there's a bunch of green down towards the bottom of the puzzle.
And when I find two pieces that snap together, there is a recognition of 'Oh, that must be the top of the birdhouse.' Before, those two puzzle pieces were just blobs of color. But, when they are put together, they become something recognizeable.
And, as more pieces get put in place, the picture becomes clearer. I'm sure God sees it the same way. He probably started with light and dark and then moved on to looking for all the blue pieces for the sky and putting all the yellow pieces together for the sun.
Sometimes I'll drop a piece on the floor. Even if one piece of the puzzle is missing, it takes away from the beauty of the whole thing. I'm sure God sees it that way too. Maybe we are each one piece of his puzzle - all important and all necessary for the whole puzzle to be completed.
Hmmmm... just interesting thoughts that tumbled out just now.
Peace.
